We will post updates pertaining to the center including Weather Closings, Report Card Dates, and Class Schedules

March 10, 2020

Dear Kuma’s parents and students,

On March 9, 2020, six positive cases of Coronavirus were identified in four counties, including Prince George County; we are in regular contact with Maryland Department of Health regarding the Coroavirus. The school system adheres to guidance and direction from the country and state health departments in all health-related matters.

As a precaution, for Spring Break travel, anyone who travels to a high-risk area should contact the county or state health department for instructions prior to departure and before returning to school or work. Please note that we are continuing to work proactively to keep students and the class settings safe, prevent the spread of respiratory viruses, develop plans to continue instruction in the event of any school closures, and share information.

Keep class settings safe
Our team is working hard to keep frequently used surfaces and areas as clean as possible. We are frequently cleaning the tables every 2-3 hours while all the students need to wash their hands once they arrive the facility. In addition, we have prepared enough soap and hand sanitizer.

Prevent spread of respiratory viruses
Practicing everyday preventive steps can help slow the spread of respiratory illnesses like colds, flu and Coronavirus: Stay home when sick, wash hands often with soap and water, and cover your coughs and sneezes. Tutors have been briefed on Coronavirus symptoms and we will continue to share the latest health department guidance with students and their families.

Continue instruction
Students who are sick should follow regular procedures for making up class assignments and homework. In the event of school closures, parents will have the prior decision if to continue the tutoring regularly or to pause the service. For those who would like to continue, we will only provide limited one-on-one tutoring or online tutoring instead of after school program. Assignments will be posted electronically, supplemented by online textbooks and resources if necessary. If needed, contact the program coordinator to discuss further details.

Kuma Learning Center is committed to providing safe teaching, learning and working environments for all students. We will continue to consult with the Maryland Department of Health on appropriate procedures and recommendations to ensure student safety.
